Chempunk
Overview
Drugs with friends is an online multiplayer co-op third person 3D souls-like combat game where you fight enemies and find new weapons that mutate your body which gives you new abilities.
About the Project
This game was made for a game project course during my third year at the University of Skövde where the goal was to create a game in a group of 6 people from start to finish in 10 weeks. I was one of 2 programmers and was responsible player movement, combat systems and getting multiplayer to work. This also included settings up lobbies and such. I also made sure the game was playable with both keyboard & mouse and controller and made sure all UI and such had support for this.
Unfortunately the the scope of the project was way too big for us to finish which led us to scrap the project after the course was over.
Takeaways from the Project
This project taught me a lot about how complex the combat and movement for souls-like games are. There's a lot of small details that make the player experience feel good such as different camera options with changes movement and transitions that need to be smooth for everything to feel right. For this project, a lot of the combat and movement was based off Dark Souls 3 and I learned a lot about how to implement similar systems and how to make them feel good. I also learned a lot about networking and how to get multiplayer to work in Unity.
